Not got a full year? Want to devote your summer to helping others and serving God? Don’t just talk about it, DO IT!
The Micro Gap is the perfect opportunity to put your faith into action, roll up your sleeves and get stuck in! This year could be your time to step out in faith and deepen your relationship with God. The Micro Gap is a combination of hands-on training, teaching, worship, fellowship and prayer all taking place at our projects in Romania.
Each summer Micro Gap lengths can vary. For instance for summer 2023 Micro Gap will only be 3 weeks, however we would hope to extend this for 2024. During the time in Romania you will get to fully experience everything we do. As part of the Micro Gap, you will do all of the following:
- Work one-to-one with some of our more challenging young people at Casa Lumina
- Plan and run the Hospice Lumina day centre activities as well as spend time in Hospice Lumina with the patients who need more one to one care.
- Run a summer long programme at Negustorului e.g. weekly Kids Church
- Complete a practical project benefitting one of our projects or patients
- Weekly teaching module on ‘Mission’
- Depending on the duration of your Micro gap we may include some Romanian lessons.
As well as these, as you begin to get more familiar with how our projects work, you will help facilitate volunteer groups, taking more of a leadership role. You will also have the opportunity to have personal one-to-ones, throughout, with Steve Cooper (Founder/CEO) and Beth Frimpong (Charity manager and Co-ordinator of Volunteers) to discuss how it is going, any problems or things you are enjoying.
Previous Gappers had this to say about their experience:
“This was the best summer of my life and absolutely something that I would happily do again. It was an incredible opportunity to engage with so many people in so many situations and to have loads of fun while making a difference to the lives of people who really need it. A fantastic summer and definitely something that I would recommend.” Abi Wells
“The most amazing moment this summer was hearing some of the children at Kids’ Club at Negustorului repeating a prayer of commitment to God. It was a beautiful moment and it confirmed for me that there is hope for this village. What I found to be the greatest blessing was to be accepted as a friend by both the staff and the patients at the projects that we worked with.” Ted Roberts
The cost of the Micro Gap can vary depending on the duration. However the fee you pay includes flights, accommodation, all meals and travel within Romania. A proportion will go towards the practical project as well as the cost of Romanian lessons.
If you, or someone you know, would like to apply or would like more information contact Steve Cooper or Beth Frimpong now.
